Sony competes on many fronts, but there is a category where it has been marking the guideline: the headphones with active noise cancellation. The WH-1000X series has been able to stay as a generation after generation, thanks to constant improvements and well-measured. Three years after WH-1000XM5it is the turn of the WH-1000XM6. An update that does not seek to revolutionize, but to refine what already worked and raise the level in sound, functions and design. As we point out in our analysisalthough they were convincing, they did not stand out as much as they did in cancellation of noise, autonomy or ergonomics. The new Wh-1000XM6 point out precisely there, with a renewed diaphragm unit and a redesigned coil that, according to Sony, allows a more precise and rich reproduction in nuances. The objective: achieve a more natural audio. The company has had the support of Masterization Engineers of studies such as Sterling Sound, Battery Studios and Coast Mastering. His work does not intend to turn these headphones into a study tool, but to ensure that what we hear better approaches the original intention of the artist. In addition to the classic Hi-Res and LDAC audio support, the DSEE Extreme with Edge-AI engine is maintained, which we already knew in the XM5. Their task is to recess the compressed files in real time and return part of the dynamic range they lose during compression. In practice, this translates into a more complete sound when we use streaming services with aggressive compression. A smartest noise cancellation At this point Sony already started from a solid base. The WH-1000XM5 offered one of the best cancellations in the market, especially when the conditions were unfavorable. With the XM6, the improvement comes from the hand of New QN3 HD processorwhich multiplies by seven the capacity of the previous chip and now manages 12 microphones instead of 8. The new system, combined with the adaptive NC optimiser, automatically adjusts the cancellation according to the environment and atmospheric pressure. The ambient sound mode has also been refined, which now better filters useful noises, such as a nearby voice or an acoustic signal. All this can be managed directly from the Sony application | Sound Connect, which allows automate sound profiles or set them manually to the user’s taste. In the XM5, the calls were already a jump with respect to previous models. Even so, there was a margin of improvement in complex situations, especially with wind or changing noise. The WH-1000xm6 raises the ribbon with a new system of six microphones with beam formation and a noise reduction algorithm optimized by AI. Sony’s promise is that, even when there are conversations or background trafficking, your voice will remain clear and separated from the environment. It is not only a matter of microphones, but of how that data is processed in real time. Most comfortable, improved folding and intuitive controls At first glance, the WH-1000XM6 do not present a radical jump in design with respect to the XM5, but there are several relevant changes. The headband is now wider and has redesigned with an asymmetric profile that facilitates identifying the left and right side of a look. It is covered with vegan skin, designed to offer a gentle and smooth adjustment. The pads have also been optimized for prolonged use, with a new elastic material that seeks reduce fatigue and better block outside noise. In the XM5 they already stood out for their comfort (250 grams of weight and a uniform distribution of pressure), and the XM6 further refine that approach, maintaining that sensation of headset does not bother even after several hours of use. XM6 premiere a new folding mechanism manufactured by metal injection, designed to offer more durability and facilitate transportation. The case, by the way, has also been redesigned: now it includes a magnetic closure and is easier to transport. As for the controls, Sony maintains the tactile system to manage reproduction, calls and sound modes. The intelligent functions section has also received a good dose of novelties.
