The US tariffs threaten the massive arrival of ridiculously cheap Chinese products. Europe has a plan

First was the United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Stamer, which made clear The posture of the nation in front of the tariff war. China was more ally than enemy against the turbulence of the global market. Then It was Pedro SánchezPresident of Spain, the one that manifested in the same line. Somehow, both leaders showed that, in the commercial war, there are different interpretations In Europe, and that happens while a word next to China, which will test the regulations of the old continent: dumping. The challenge after tariffs. For years, Europe has seen in China a formidable economic competitor, but many media such as The New York Times They have begun to slide a fear of the escalation of commercial tensions between Beijing and Washington, and how it can transform that challenge into A threat potentially destabilizing for the continent. As? The imposition of Extraordinary tariffs On the part of Trump has raised a commercial wall that prevents Chinese exports from addressing its traditional market, which has lit alarms in Brussels due to the possibility that an avalanche of subsidized products, from electric vehicles to industrial steel, be redir massively to Europe. With key industries such as those of France, Germany or Italy already in a vulnerable situation, the fear is that the so -called dumping (the practice of selling below the cost to eliminate local competition) intensifies until eroding the foundations of European production. Of course, it does not have to be so, and Europe has “weapons” to avoid it. Diplomatic balancing. One thing does seem true. The European bloc is caught between two fires: on the one hand, the pressures of American protectionism and, on the other, the need to contain the Chinese overproduction without triggering an open conflict. The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has tried articulate an answer that combines firmness with pragmatism: he has promised to “closely monitor” the Chinese merchandise flowhas created a working group to detect dumping practices and has warned that Europe “cannot absorb excess global capacity.” Her messidated position was applauded by analysts, who consider her the best way to avoid an economic disaster. However, The Times explained that the unit of the continent can begin to show cracks in the face of the magnitude of the problem. Here are the words we commented at the beginning of leaders like Sánchez or Starmer betting on a greater approach to China as a shield in the face of the turbulence of the global market, while other EU members cry out for a more energetic defense of the European industrial fabric. Europe has a plan. The truth is that, in the face of the catastrophic image that has been warned in many media, for years the European Union has adopted a rigorous regulatory approach to contain the massive entry of Chinese products in your market. As? Through A combination of tariff measures, technical controls and non -tariff barriers that act as effective filters against dumping and unfair competition. Among the most outstanding tools are Antidumping research carried out by the European Commission, which have resulted in more than 100 current measures against Chinese products, covering from stainless steel to electric bicycles. In addition, the Rasff system (Fast food and feed alert network) constantly monitor the entry of non -compliant products with European quality and safety standards, blocking dozens of shipments every year. And the reach. To this is added the strict compliance with the regulation called Like Reachwhich requires any well imported good to register and evaluate its chemical substances, a firewall that prevents numerous Chinese industrial products from freely accessing the community market. Thanks to this normative network and its ability to activate ex officio investigations, the EU not only responds to concrete threats, but can also proactively dissuade the entry of goods that They do not meet the standards Europeans, configuring a legal wall that, until now, has effectively mitigated the wave of Asian overproduction. An asymmetric relationship. That said, and beyond the immediate context, the bottom of the problem may lies in an unbalanced commercial relationship. The Times told that Europe has accumulated a record deficit with China, one that in 2023 reached the 332,000 million dollarsfed by state subsidies that distort the market and by regulatory barriers that hinder the access of European companies to the Chinese market. Plus: the European Commission already has classified China as a “systemic rival” And bilateral relations have cooled in recent years, especially after Beijing support to Moscow during the invasion of Ukraine. European commissioners have expressed directly Your concern During recent diplomatic visits to China, demanding more equitable conditions and voluntary restrictions on exports of subsidized goods. Opportunistic messages and alliances. Despite these disagreements, China has intensified its Diplomatic offensive and media to present themselves as a strategic partner of Europe against chaos generated by Washington. From sponsored articles In influential media of Brussels until Official Communities That omit real tensions, Beijing tries to cultivate an image of stability and collaboration. In parallel, he has accepted Resume negotiations With the EU around European tariffs to Chinese electric vehicles, while minimizing disagreements. Meanwhile, European spokesmen respond cautiousspeaking of “reviews” or “continuation of conversations”, without offering clear adhesion or a firm rejection. An ambiguity that reflects not only the complexity of the situation, but also, perhaps, the fragility of a common strategy within the block. A crucial summer. So things, and with a photo that only points to A fear If we rely on European events and norms, the immediate future of European commercial policy could play a key game in the coming months. One is scheduled UE-China Summit For the second half of July, a meeting in which both blocks will try to soften friction before the impact of US tariffs is translated into an overestrial crisis in the European market. At the moment, the EU seems to have adopted a containment strategy: to endure the pull, maintain the balance between firmness and flexibility, and prevent the … Read more

Needs to remove tariffs on your electric cars

We are on April 14. Anyone would say that we have climbed into a concord and we have turned over the speed of sound without pause, without scales. Without stopping to repost. Since last April 2, the United States began to Apply cars tariffssteel and aluminum but, above all, since it imposed New commercial barriers to almost all of the world, it seems that everything has happened at a dizzying speed. In just 12 days we have seen USA Impose tariffs on (almost) every inhabited country. Even if I was inhabited by penguins and a handful of humans. We have seen one Chinese response, to the bag falla Increased hostilities In the commercial war, raising tariffs, threats from the European Union, the stock market falling again, increases in the figures of the tariffs that touched the absurd and a final step of Donald Trump with a 90 -day truce and Exemptions in some products Arriving from China. But before all this happened, there last October 2024, the European Union began to apply tariffs to Chinese electric cars that remain in force. A commercial dispute that has had multiple derivatives. To start, in Spain we have seen how The government changed minds About tariffs on Chinese electric cars To avoid Chinese reprisals. Reprisals that have reached countries like Italy, where investments have been cast back for supporting these tariffs in the past. Or that they led to Byd, Saic and Geely to file a lawsuit before the Court of Justice of the European Union. Months after the first storm, it seems that Europe and China begin to understand each other. At least that’s what the German newspaper affirms Handelsblatt. Looking for a land price To be clear about what we are talking about, you have to know where we come from. In September 2023the European Union began talking clearly to impose tariffs on Chinese electric cars. The agencies began to defend that the Chinese automobile industry was distorting the market offering electric cars at a very low price. That low and highly competitive price could allow it because, according to the European Union, their companies were Dopadas with state money. Either with direct subsidies, with soft credits or with the transfer of land, the European Commission ended up voting in favor of imposing what, first, were “Compensatory Rights” And, already in October 2024, they reached the figure of “duty” as we know them. Before that last approval, the European Union and China maintained an open dialogue on them. So Europe opted for impose tariffs with specific rates to each manufacturer, ensuring that not everyone had received the same aid and depending on the degree of collaboration shown. For example, Byd was the Chinese company that received the least punishment (17.4%) but SAIC, which is the property of the Chinese state, was 37.6%. To these figures we must add the 10% base that any country pays for exporting its cars to Europe. The rates, in addition, were applied to cars European manufacturers They produce in China. For example, the Volkswagen Group that in China is associated with SAIC has to pay very high tariffs for bring your electric cupra. It was a measure that tried to bring money and investments to Europe but that, with the rejection of China, ended by become a shot in the foot For some countries. From the first moment, the Chinese government was contrary to this decision and considered discriminatory this way of acting. For its part, the European Union opened the door to dialog combustion cars and plug -in hybrids. A type of especially attractive product in countries like Spain where cars purchases are dominated by low -end vehicles. Months after that, the German newspaper Handelsblatt It states that the European Union already negotiates with China a land price to its vehicles in exchange for lifting tariffs on electric cars. The media ensures that Maros Sefcovic, EU trade commissioner, has filed conversations with Wang Wentao, Chinese Minister of Commerce. At this meeting, the agreement would have reached a land price to its vehicles. The problem now is to reach an understanding, in Reuters They explain that so far the minimum prices that the European Union has imposed on foreign products always They have taxed simple products. That is, to non -complex products such as a car. The news agency already advances that from Europe they are willing to reach an agreement with different prices depending on the vehicle. At the moment, there is no news of what this land would be and if it would also affect cars with combustion engines or only electric vehicles as it happens right now with additional tariffs. Keep in mind that a different land price may make sense due to vehicle size or other variable that represents the quality and final price of the vehicle. It would be completely absurd to impose a land price of 20,000 euros (for example) to a five -meter car and leave the same figure for a large five -meter berling, generally associated with higher quality vehicles, cost and price. Liberating tariffs on Chinese manufacturers is also an advantage for Europeans who manufacture in Asian soil. In this way they will be able to offer their products without having to pay the corresponding rates so from Germany they already press so that this decision comes forward. Those who can show more contrary to this proposal are French manufacturers such as Renault or Stellantis. Except the Dacia Springthe Renault group does not bring electric cars from China and has always sold as a value to produce its Renault 5 In France. Stellantis either has Factories in China And in Europe it sells Leapmotor cars but the goal is that are manufactured in European landreuseting the facilities that the company has already distributed throughout Europe. At the same time, China needs agreements to continue selling cars outside its borders. Its production threatens to create a surplus of vehicles. Byd aims to sneak into the Five largest … Read more

The English Court has the MacBook that would buy me right now. It is powerful, but also cheap

I have always used Windows for comfort. The first computer that my father brought home carried the Windows 98, and since then I have felt a great familiarity with the operating system, to the point of not considering making the leap to other ecosystems. Although This changed just over a month ago. I bought the Mac Mini M4 And I am very delighted, so much that I have even considered buying a laptop. Although I don’t need it for now (a couple of years ago I bought a gaming masi laptop), the MacBook Air M2 It is the one that would buy me right now. And I would do it mainly because in El Corte Inglés it has dropped in price to the 879 euros. * Some price may have changed from the last review A MacBook with an excellent value for money I liked the Mac Mini M4 so much (eye, there are some things that don’t) that at the moment I will not return to Windows. Therefore, in the face of the future, Macbook Air are an option that interest me more and more, especially if I can find any model at a good price. In the end, I have always had a limit of 1,000 or 1,100 euros that I have not passed with Windows computers, and I will not do it with any Apple. The macbook air m2 now has a good price for everything it offersand that is why it catches my attention. In this case, it is about MacBook Air M2 with a 13.6 -inch screen in its 16 GB configuration of unified memory and 256 GB of internal storage. In addition, to all this we must add that it comes with the Apple m2 chipwhich means two things: it offers a very good power and performance and is compatible with Apple Intelligence. Although yes, personally, for now I have not used Apple’s artificial intelligence because it does not attract me at all – not Apple’s, or any other. This point is completely indifferent to me, what I am looking for, or what I prioritize is a good performance. And another point that catches my attention, although this is somewhat more widespread of Apple’s laptops, and not only of the Air, is that the MacBook Air M2 has a Battery that offers excellent autonomy. It depends a lot on the use that we give, but in a theoretical way it is capable of reaching about 18 hours of video playback or up to 15 hours of wireless web navigation. They are very good figures, especially if we are looking for a laptop to work away from home. The megabattery that aspires to alleviate the drought of the island in full controversy

90% of the territory of Gran Canaria will present a high or very high risk of desertification, with increasingly frequent calimas and droughts, According to the Foresta Foundation. In response to this situation, 14 years ago, the Electricity of Spain, with the support of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, initiated the construction of a project that will supply water and electricity, although not without controversy. The initiative. El Salto de Chira It is a hydroelectric plant of reversible pumping in southwest Gran Canaria, which will use the dams of Chira and Soria. The project consists of a renewable energy storage megabattery and also wants to ensure water supply in the area. The plant, which is still being built (40%), has a budget of 391 million euros. In addition, it has the support of the European Investment Bank and the Government of Spain. It will be ready in 2027. The central will become a 200 MW megabattery with storage capacity of up to 18 hours, According to eldiario.es. In addition, the project includes a desalination company that will supply water to the system and allow pumping between dams, taking advantage of the excess renewable energy in low demand hours and improving the insular electrical system. A very long management. More than a decade to claim that everything works correctly due to the technical complexity of building a reversible hydroelectric plant, as has happened in Galicia, and this is in turn linked to a desalination company, so planning and execution advance at a slower pace. On the other hand, permits and authorizations have been a long process due to environmental impact studies and public consultations. In addition, the logistics difficulty derived from the steep terrain of the island is added. However, a neighborhood group by Barranquillo Andrés and Soria Guapil has declared In the country that 90% of the neighbors support the work for the positive impact on local agriculture and livestock. Also, the Bentorey association has recognized in the same medium the discomfort, instead they positively value the project for its impact on the water supply. There is a rejection. In face B of the matter, various environmental organizations and technical voices have expressed their rejection. The Ecologist Turcón collective They have considered That the central is energetically inefficient, when requiring the desalination and pumping of water from the sea to high areas, which implies a high energy expenditure and a considerable environmental impact. In addition, they have criticized that it is promoted as a clean energy initiative when, in their opinion, it is rather a storage infrastructure that depends on a privatized energy model and controlled by large corporations such as Naturgy or Iberdrola. Other controversies in the islands. Although El Hierro Island can be set as an example of the future of energy self -sufficiency through renewable energies, a couple of months ago jumped to the press that depended on diesel to meet its energy demand. Therefore, it is important that they continue to carry out energy storage projects if you want to achieve a system of renewable with intermittent energies. Forecasts According to the province, the works They are underway with four kilometers of the planned tunnels already executed and the desalination and the completed electricity line. It is expected that, throughout 2025, water discharges will begin in the reservoirs of Chira and Soria, marking a milestone in the execution of the project. The olive oil campaign is doing so well that Spanish olivers have already lost 270 million euros

At the end of January, the Almazares de Middle Country They were working 24 hours a day and were direct to triple the amounts of olive last year. It seemed good news. Moreover, after years of drought, it was excellent news. But, As we warnedcould become a problem. Well, it is already becoming a problem. But how will it be a problem? I recognize that it may seem paradoxical. We carry several campaigns in which the big problem is that There were no olives. That shot prices, yes: but hardly compensated for the different links in the production chain. It is no coincidence that the world’s largest olive oil company lost 34 million euros only in 2023. Now there are olives. The problem is that there are too many and that the sector is in such a weak state, that it has not been able to contain the price drop. There the complications begin. Have prices fallen so much? At consumer level, not so much. But originally the situation has been very down. To get an idea, According to data from the Information and Food Control Agencyonly in March, “135,000 tons have been marketed (including imports) to an average of 3.62 euros in all categories.” The amount is important, yes. Above all, because (Docked by international trade problems) We have reached a rhythm that can be at risk of the campaign link: reserves that allow stabilizing the price throughout the year. That is, it is important. But the key is the price. What can we learn from the price? Historically, the line of the traditional dry land olive tree I was around four euros. It is true that the irruption of the irrigation olive tree and the New superintenive varieties They make many profitable farms at lower prices, but the bulk of the Spanish oil Keep from dry. And that dry land has been the worst the crisis of recent years. The current price drop in origin puts it in a very complicated situation. A complication of 270 million euros. In that amount, the UPA Secretary General Andalusia, Jesús Cózar, the dimension of the problem. “The olive groves have stopped receiving 270 million euros in the month of March, or what is the same, more than 8 million daily, due to the current situation of ruin prices at origin,” explained. Your complaint is debatable, but makes sense. Because, indeed, “There are no objective reasons that justify this bearish trend of prices at origin.” Taking into account current reserves, technically speaking the price would have to be superior: oil is coming out at a rate that is not sustainable. And that is what worries the producers. Knowing that in normal circumstances, the olive would have to sell almost two euros more expensive and, in this way, the 2024-2025 campaign would have been a revulsion. Right now is just another year of agony. Image | MILTOF | Pom ‘ In Xataka | Right now there are thousands and thousands of tons of olive oil embarking on the United States

The startup of ia of one of Openai’s co -founders has no product. Even so it is valued at 32,000 million dollars

Promises and expectations can use a fortune. It is the only thing that justifies that a startup of which nothing is known It is worth good 32,000 million dollars. That is more than eBay, Endesa or Hyundai, but with the difference that these companies have been working for years and even decades to achieve that figure. But we are in the AI era, and here, we insist, promises and expectations are worth a lot. There is not much more than right now it seems to offer Safe Superintelligence (SSI), the startup of Ia co -founded by Ilya Sutskever, who was already confused of OpenAi and abandoned his ranks less than a year ago. According to Financial TimesSutskever has managed to lift a financing round of 2,000 million dollars for its startup, which makes the assessment of the same ascend to those mentioned 32,000 million dollars. The figure is also surprising because the economic moment we live, with tariffs threatening everything, precisely raises an important brake on investment. In September SSI He already lifted $ 1 billion and that made its valuation out of 5,000 million. That figure has multiplied by six, which seems to make it clear that they have something striking in hand. In An interview Last year Sutksver raised an AI with “nuclear safety”clarifying that “no matter how safe we mean as when we talk about nuclear safety, as opposed to safe when we talk about” trust and security “”. In a later interview in September this engineer and entrepreneur indicated that he and his team had “identified a new mountain to climb and that it is something different from what I previously worked on.” Sources close to SSI have indicated that the company works in very special ways to develop and climb AI models. If true The milestone would certainly be intriguingespecially now that it is criticized that climbing – more gpus and more data to train AI models— It no longer provides such striking improvements. Be that as it may, the former OpenAi employees are apparently very well after having left the company. We have another example in Look Muratiwhich has also launched a call startup Thinking Machines Lab. He is also working to raise an important investment round … and also does it without having any product to show. So are these times. Image | OpenAI In Xataka | There are too many AI models. LaLiga breaks with mediopro. Production passes to Telefónica and a Swiss giant who comes from retransmitting world

LaLiga has closed the contest to renew its audiovisual production and has done so marking distances: Mediapro disappears after decades to the front, and enters strong HBS (Host Broadcast Services), which takes three of the five blocks offered. This Swiss company is the new person in charge of showing the world the first and second division matches during the next five seasons, which at least until 2027 will continue to be broadcast in Spain by Movistar and Dazn. This affects production. Why is it important. Production is no longer an addition, it is part of the product. In an industry that competes for global attention, how football looks is almost as important as the game itself. And LaLiga, which in this sense has been winning for years, wants to play in the same league as the Premier and the Champions. The backdrop. HBS is not new in this. It has been producing all soccer World Cups since 2002, and has worked in Champions, Eurocups and Olympic Games. His arrival in LaLiga is marked by the technical and quality approach to retransmissions, with a commitment to international standards and centralization of key services. In detail: HBS will be in charge of the production of LaLiga EA Sports and LaLiga Hypermotion (1st and 2nd division) parties, in addition to technical and centralized services. TSA (Telefónica Audiovisual Services) will deal with the contribution and distribution block, that is, to bring these signals to national and international operators. Mediapro is out of the scheme after years being the main supplier. Telefónica, which already distributes LaLiga and European competitions, reinforces its position as a sports technical infrastructure, in turn part of Its strategy of being less and less telecus and more technological. He is not the protagonist, but a key part of the ecosystem that holds the viewer’s experience. Yes, but. One of the five blocks has been deserted: the content creation. LaLiga reserves that space to integrate it with other contracts. Perhaps for wanting to have more control and flexibility about the narrative that surrounds its most valuable product. The big question. Why now? The change is part of a new stage for LaLiga: greater control, greater international projection And an answer to criticism – as those of Real Madrid– On the editorial approach of retransmissions. In fact, six years ago The White Club already broke with Midopro For these same criticisms. In Xataka | There are people paying $ 100 to see basketball matches in the cinema. promises to manufacture up to half a billion dollars in AI products in the US

Nvidia has announced an ambitious plan to manufacture artificial intelligence infrastructure (AI) in the United States by value of up to 500,000 million dollars during the next four years. The initiative includes the production of Blackwell Chips in Phoenix (Arizona), as well as new plants dedicated to assembling their AI superorders in Texas. The company will also have facilities in Houston and Dallas. It provides that mass production in plants take off within between 12 and 15 months. Now, the announcement arrives at a delicate time, marked by the commercial war promoted by the administration of Donald Trump that, Despite a temporary exemptionmaintains the focus on semiconductors. Factories in the US, foreign experience. Although Nvidia has not detailed what models of Blackwell chips or AI systems will be involved, it has confirmed with who will carry out this industrial expansion. The company will support weight partners such as TSMC, Foxconn and Spil, three Taiwanese giants, in addition to the American Wistron. Behind this international collaboration is the model Fables that follows Nvidia. The company designs its chips, but does not have its own manufacturing plants. To do this, he trusts specialized manufacturers such as TSMC, a formula that also use other heavyweights of the industry such as AMD, Qualcomm or MediaTek. But after the announcement underlies an uncomfortable reality, especially for the aspirations of technological self -sufficiency pursued by the United States. Large companies in the sector, such as NVIDIA or Apple, continue to depend largely on the production capacity and foreign expertise for the production of most of its products. Taiwanese firms land in the US. Match the level of technological sophistication offered by Taiwan remains a distant goal. Giving up that capacity simply is not a viable option. The alternative, As already begun to glimpse with the Chips Law promoted by the Biden Administrationgoes to attract factories to the US territory. But the deployment has not been simple. TSMC has faced delays due to the difficulty of finding workers willing to assume their demanding work culture. According to Fortunethe 12 -hour days and weekend shifts did not fit the American model, and caused internal tensions and high staff rotation. The plants begin to take off. After months of delays, the first TSMC factory in Arizona has started producing chips for Apple and AMD using the N4 node (5 Nm). It is not its most advanced technology, but marks an important step. The second plant, scheduled for 2028, will work with nodes of 3 Nm and 2 Nm. In the case of Nvidia, the company has confirmed that the production of its Blackwell chips has already begun at the TSMC facilities in Arizona. What is not entirely clear is at what exact point the process is located or if the final packaging is being carried out in the United States or continues depending on shipments to Taiwan. As A ASML points outthere are several processes involved in chips production. Let’s see them in general: Deposition: It starts from an ultrapuro silicon wafer on which very thin layers of different materials are added. These layers form the base of the chip. Fotor resistant coating: The wafer is covered with a photosensitive material that reacts to light and allows to transfer the design of the circuit. Lithography: Ultraviolet light on the resist To draw the chip pattern. This phase defines the size of transistors. Recorded: The exposed areas of the resist To mark the pattern on the wafer. It can be done with gases (dry) or with chemicals (wet). Ionic implantation: The wafer with ions is bombarded to modify its conductivity and form the transistors. Packaging: Chips are cut, place on a substrate with connections and encapsulate with a cover that protects them and helps to dissipate heat. Waiting for advances. Analysts cited by Reuters point that “it is unlikely that Nvidia had transferred its production to the United States of not being for the pressure of the Trump administration.” They add, however, that the announced figure could be an exaggeration, and compare the maneuver as the one performed by Apple when it promised to invest half a billion dollars in the country.
