his commitment to photography

A few days ago we celebrated Xataka Awards 2025. As always, we reward the best devices of the year and, as almost always, talking about super high-end mobile phones is talking about the current Samsung Galaxy – the S25 Ultra this year – and the corresponding iPhone – the iPhone 17 Pro Max-. In this edition we did not see any surprises in this aspect, but we did see a third place that was won by a brand that had never been among the winners: I live with his Vivo X200 Pro. And much of the credit goes to a camera that my partner Ricardo described as “FUN, with capital letters.” ZEISS is the visible face, behind it there is much more Having placed himself as one of the best phones of the year It is not something that can be achieved overnight, especially in a range as competitive as that of mobile phones over 1,000 euros. Many factors come into play in a segment in which the competition is brutal, but much of the weight of that third place is carried by the camera. The beginning of the Spanish journey in the high range: the X51 5G | Photo: Xataka This is something they have been working on for five years. It was in 2020 when Vivo landed in Spain with the X51 5Ga model that did not stand out for its processor and other technical characteristics, but for itsa very ambitious camera. Angle, wide angle and two telephoto lenses: a 2x portrait lens and a longer one with 5x optical lenses. They have already started flirting with digital 60x. A year later they raised the bar with the Vivo X60 Pro. Better screen, better processor, more RAM and three cameras instead of two, but with something that has accompanied them until today: the collaboration with Zeiss. The alliance with this historic brand of objectives translated into photographic modes, but also into agreements to improve main camera lens (with an anti-reflective treatment, for example). With the X60 Pro the Zeiss label was introduced | Photo: Xataka With the X70 They returned to the four cameras (two of them telephoto lenses) and the big news was the personalized image chip, the Vivo Imaging Chip V1. Of the style of MariSilicon X by OPPOhelped with image processing and, although the marks they have ended up abandoning them because MediaTek and Qualcomm ISPs are enough, it is a sign of the ambition of the Chinese brand. We saw the change of nut with the Vivo X80 Pro. Here they answered the question of “How much technology do we put in this mobile” with a “yes”with a special emphasis on the photographic section. The play was repeated in the X90in it X100 and in this third place of the Xataka Awards, the Vivo X200 Pro. The X80 Pro with its four lenses is still a beast, despite the years | Photo: Xataka Something that all these models have in common is that the Chinese company has focused on photographic capabilities, but without destroying the advances of previous generations. Hardware and, above all, software, have evolved generation after generation. When other companies turn around every generation or two, Vivo has gone a little on his way being, in addition, one of those with the best shooting speed in the Android universe. They have also gone their own way when it comes to processing, a little exaggerated for our taste in certain scenarios, but remaining constant in something that, for many years, was the measuring stick of mobile photography: the portrait. Vivo X200 | Photo: Xataka In the analysis of the X200 Pro we commented that “it is a camera that you can trust to, In practically all situations, you have a good result”, and it is something that could be said of all the high-end Vivos since the brand’s arrival in Spain. Innovation and fun Curiously, the one that has won the award is not the last Vivo. Just after voting closed, two mobile phones with very similar characteristics appeared on the market: the OPPO Find X9 Pro and the Vivo X300 Pro. The two have a similar approach on camera and both will surely give a lot to talk about for next year. The Vivo X200 Ultra was a sign of the company’s emphasis on mobile photography innovation | Photo: Xataka The reason? Their telephoto kits. The one on the Vivo is better resolved because it allows you to use the main sensor – something that the OPPO does not – but the idea is the same: a camera that allows you to attach a telephoto lens that takes advantage of the smartphone’s tele sensor. To achieve a very long focal length, extremely wide camera modules would have to be created, but with this approach, we have a versatile camera always on us and an attachment that we can use whenever we want. “It is a camera that you can trust so that, in practically all situations, you will have a good result” It is an addition, a way to give the user more tools and that They already tried it with the Vivo X200 Ultrabecause the X300 builds on the same as the X200 and lor that Vivo has been building for five years: processed with personality, versatility, filters that really add up and a special focus on portraiture. And, above all, with a word that different editors have used to describe the camera in each of the analyzes of a mobile phone of this brand: Fun. It is what is truly special and differentiating. Because the technical characteristics are extremely similar in phones in the same price range, but it is in the cameras where they allow themselves to provide something that differentiates them from the others. The Nubia Z80 Ultra is not only a beast with 7,200 mAh battery. It also has a photography kit that transforms it into a camera

Nubia does not fail its annual event and has just announced its new high-end, the Nubia Z80 Ultra. The ZTE subsidiary follows in the footsteps of the Nubia Z70 Ultra and opts for a technical sheet that practically has no room for more cutting-edge features. Furthermore, this year they are jumping on the bandwagon of photographic mobiles with a kit that transforms it into a retro camera. Let’s see everything it offers. ZTE Axon 20. It has already become a hallmark of its high-end range and in its Nubia range it was not going to be any less. Thanks to this, The front of the phone is all screen, specifically a 6.85-inch panel with brightness of up to 2,000 nits and a refresh rate of 144Hz. In addition to the front camera, the screen also hides a fingerprint reader. When we turn it over we find its other hallmark, the camera module that resembles the appearance of a retro camera. It is rectangular and occupies the entire width of the phone. Furthermore, unlike other cameras that usually place the sensors together in a square or circular arrangement, here we have the main sensor that stands out from the rest, with the telephoto one below and the angular one further to the right. All three sensors are OmniVision. The main one, 50 megapixels, is the largest, brightest and has an optical stabilizer. The wide angle also offers the same resolution, but the sensor is smaller and the lens is not as bright. Finally, the telephoto lens has 64 megapixels of resolution and also has an optical stabilizer. The photographic kit. Speaking of cameras, the Nubia Z80 Ultra comes with a photography kit sold separately and consists of a housing to which we can attach an external telephoto lens. The housing has controls on the top that make it almost a compact camera. No details have been given about the telephoto lens, but it is very reminiscent of the Vivo X300. The latest from Qualcomm and battery for a while Under the hood of the Nubia Z80 Ultra we find the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 which Qualcomm announced just a month ago. In addition to the most advanced chip, it also has 12 or 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and storage up to 1TB UFS4.1. Comes standard with the cape Nebula AI OS 2.0 based on Android 16. For the battery, it is surprising that the new model shares almost the same dimensions and weight as the previous one, but its battery is much larger. Versions and prices of the Nubia Z80 Ultra The Nubia Z80 Ultra goes on sale in Spain on November 6 and will arrive in several versions depending on color and memory. In addition to the black and white versions, Nubia repeats one more year and brings a ‘Starry Night’ version, decorated with a drawing reminiscent of the well-known work of Van Gogh. At the moment, they have not revealed the prices for Spain, but we will update as soon as they are confirmed. The versions that will go on sale are these: 12+256GB: black. 16+512GB: black, white and ‘Starry Night’. 16+1TB: black. I don’t know any photography. But since I discovered this free app, I feel that my photos with the mobile play in another league

I am not a photographer. But I enjoy taking photos with the mobile. And, as with many people, my way of doing so is quite simple: When what I see on the screen convinces me, I shot. I do not usually touch adjustments such as exposure or format. Sometimes the portrait mode active, sometimes the night mode, adjust the focus if necessary … and little else. The photos I get with me iPhone 15 pro max They seem very good to me. More than enough for what I need. But even with an inexperienced look, it is easy to note that the images made with a traditional camera They have something very different. And deep down I took it for granted. Without entering the field of advanced photography, I thought I couldn’t get my mobile much more. Adobe Indigo, the application that made me change your mind The application that changed my mind is called Indigo Projectand it is an experimental adobe labs tool developed by two figures recognized in this area: Florian Kainz and Marc Levoythe latter known for his role in the development of the Computer photography that we saw in the first Google Pixel. Indigo – that appears installed – is designed to get the entire game to the iPhone with a pro sensor, from The 12 pro Until 15 pro max. What it proposes is a different way of understanding mobile photography, closer to what traditional cameras offer, thanks to a combination of AI algorithms and intelligent processing. How exactly does it work? Indigo does not take a single photo, but several, which later Combine automatically To reduce noise, improve dynamic range and offer a cleaner and more realistic image. All this happens after pressing the shot button. Nothing else. One of its virtues is that it adapts well both to those who only want to point and shoot and those who prefer to control each aspect of the process. The app allows you to configure manual approach, exposure time, ISO, exposure compensation and white balance, with tools such as a precision magnifying glass or the possibility of calibrating the color by playing a neutral gray object. Comparison: Photo captured with the iPhone camera (left) and with indigo (right) Comparison: Photo captured with the iPhone camera (left) and with indigo (right) In this article I show some comparisons. On the left, images taken with the iPhone camera app. On the right, the same scenes captured with indigo. At first glance, the difference is remarkable: less artificial overexposure, less noise, warmer and more natural colors, skies that resemble real ones. Comparison: Photo captured with the iPhone camera (left) and with indigo (right) Comparison with cuts: photo captured with the iPhone chamber (left) and with indigo (right) Of course, it should be taken into account a couple of details. The images take a few seconds to process and, during that time, the phone is heated. There is also an impact on battery consumption if many photos are taken in a row. It’s nothing serious, but it’s there. Since I started using Indigo, the usual chamber app has passed to the background. Not because I have become a photographer, but because I finally feel that the photos I take with my mobile They get closer to what he wanted to capture from the beginning. Kodak revolutionized the world of photography. His last message sounds more like farewell than reinvention

Your first camera may be a Small yellow or black box, plastic, with a metallic click and a reel that you carried to reveal to discover photos of bright colors. Before there were mobile phones and Instagram filters, Kodak was the entrance door to photography for millions of people. Yesterday, that same company warned in its quarterly report (Form 10-Q that presents before the SEC) that its continuity is in doubt. The market responded to the announcement with a fall close to 26% of the shares in the subsequent moments. According to the aforementioned document, Kodak closed the last quarter with a net loss of 26 million dollars, compared to 25 million benefit a year earlier, and 155 million box to June 30. The problem is that in less than a year obligations over around 500 million and today it has no compromised financing to cover them, which activated the notice of ‘Going concerns‘. To gain margin, the company has launched extraordinary measures, but has indicated that “these conditions raise serious doubts about the company’s ability to continue operating.” To invent the easy photo to existential doubt Far from their domain days in cameras and reels, Kodak operates today in commercial printing, chemicals and advanced materials, and film for cinema. Its brand is licensed for consumer products, while reinforcing businesses where it retains industrial technology and capillarity. Besides, It already has a regulated installation in Rochesterregistered by the FDA, which will start with PHOSPHATE BUFFERED SALINE (A buffered saline solution with phosphates that is usually used in laboratories and biomedical processes) and aspires to produce intravenous sera later. His footprint in consumer photography is, today, more symbolic than real. As we mentioned above, the pressure of that short-term debt is combined with loose income and limited liquidity, according to 10-Q and the results note. To win oxygen, Kodak has decided to close his Company Pension Plan in the United Statesa corporate system that guarantees retirement payments to former employees. The company plans to clarify on August 15 how it will serve all participants and complete reversal in December 2025, with the idea of amortizing part of the term loan and renegotiating or refinancing the rest. Kodak camera In 1975, Steven SassonKodak engineer, presented a digital camera prototype who captured images with a CCD sensor and kept them on tape. It was rudimentary, but marked the beginning of a technological revolution that would end up imposing. The company decided not to market it then for fear of cannibalizing the road business and for the immaturity of the product. This caution delayed its entry into the digital market, allowed rivals to consolidate positions and weakened the model that had made it unbeatable for decades. In 2020, Kodak tried to reconvert the pharmaceutical ingredients with a letter of interest from the United States Development Bank for a loan of 765 million dollars. The stock market reaction was glowing, but the process was paralyzed between research and criticismand the loan was not formalized. That ambition survives today on a smaller scale: Rochester’s CGMP installation, already registered by the FDA, will begin with PBS as the first product and will serve as a basis for exploring materials of greater regulatory value. What happens in the coming months will be decisive for Kodak. The company argues that it may pay a significant part of the loan and expand or refinance the rest, while executing the closure of the pension plan and Light your new pharmaceutical line. The market, for now, observes skepticism. For a brand that defined photography for more than a century, the challenge is no longer to innovate, but simply survive. There is a key to radically improve mobile photography. The problem is that only Xiaomi is applying it

The highest range mobiles They make good photographsThat is undeniable. As it is also undeniable that the defendant is increasingly aggressive and, with him, ends dying naturalness in photographs. But not everything is software, our camera sensor largely determines how aggressive they need to be (or not) those computational decisions of the phone. That is why an inch sensors have been demonstrating a simply brutal muscle. Xiaomi has cited us on March 2 to know his Xiaomi 15 Ultrayour photographic flagship. The company itself has given some brushstrokes about how the camera of this beast will be, revealing that it will repeat with the sensor configuration of an inch. This movement, although not new, is one of Xiaomi’s differential factors in the market. Although the camera sensors of an inch They have been with us for more than four yearsThey have not managed to be a standard in the highest range. Or, at least, in which it is sold in Europe, since some of the best Chinese phones with gigantic sensors are not sold in our territory. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: 1/1.3 “. iPhone 16 Pro Max: 1/1.28 “ I live x200 pro: 1/1.28 “ Realme GT6: 1/1.4 “ Sony Xperia 1 VI: 1/1.7 “ Honor Magic7 Pro: 1/1.3 “ OPPO FIND X7 PRO: 1/1.4 “ Xiaomi 14 Ultra: 1 “ It’s curious. We have been talking about an inch sensors for years, but there is only a high range among the great manufacturers that bets on this type of sensor. An inch sensor on a mobile phone offers significant advantages in the quality of the photos and videos, mainly due to its larger size compared to the smallest sensors that are usually integrated into smartphones. One of its keys is the best light collection, since A larger sensor has a larger surface to capture light, which translates into images with somewhat less noise in low lighting conditions. This is key, at a time when manufacturers are obsessed with their noise reduction algorithms. They are also sensors with greater depth of field (an older and better natural bokeh, so that we understand each other), and that at the technical level, allow to obtain more detail. They are little if they are not worked but, well used, these sensors are a before and after (especially in RAW shots). The problem? Introducing an inch sensors is more expensive, it requires more space in the telephone body, and complex optical development to take advantage of its potential. An investment of resources to which all manufacturers are not willing. Image | Xiaomi In Xataka | Mobile cameras will not improve as much as the sensor size increases. The mystery of the best photography made to a UFO is still unresolved. And the United Kingdom Government has the fault

In the set of UVNI eventsacronym for unidentified flying object that over time has been slightly modified to UAP, there are some more relevant than others. Obviously, those who have not been able to answer for lack of information They are the ones who have caught the public’s attention. Without going very far, Incidents revealed by New York Times In 2017 with The pentagon fighters avistando “something”They have turned the world around. And if we stick to a photograph, none like Calvine’s. Encounters in the moors of Scotland. Historius took place One night of August 1990when two hikers who worked as chefs in a nearby hotel claimed to have witnessed an inexplicable event in Calvine’s moors, a remote town in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. While they walked between the fog, They noticed the presence of a huge diamond -shaped object floating in the sky“A stranger” without sound or visible propulsion signs. Its metal structure remained static in the air, challenging common sense itself on the behavior of a conventional aircraft. The astonishment and fear of witnesses increased when A combat plane Harrier appeared on the scenesurrounding the object as if it were in a recognition maneuver. Before the men could process what they saw, the mysterious artifact amounted to high speed and disappeared. One of the witnesses managed to capture several photographs of the moment, images that, years later, would become one of the most enigmatic visual tests in the history of this type of events and considered as Better photography ever made to a UFO. The Ministry of Defense intervenes. Days later, hikers They sent the photos and their testimony to the newspaper Daily Record of Scotland. Andy Allen, image editor of the newspaper, was hit by the clarity of the photographs and decided to send the best to Craig Lindsay, then press officer of the Royal Air Force (RAF) at the base of Pitreavie Castle. Lindsay, surprised by the sharpness and realism of the image, referred it to the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense (MOD), that immediately requested the negatives and other copies. In addition, he instructed Lindsay to contact the witnesses and collect more details. Again and according to the story of one of the hikers, the ship had a metal appearance and levitated without any source of visible propulsion. The conversation with Lindsay was the last time the witnesses gave statements about the event, and His identity was never publicly revealed. Shortly after, the MOD instructed Lindsay to cease any investigation and to leave the case in his hands. One of the two poor quality photocopies of ‘VUFOILS’ (Transparent Plastic Images) made from Calvine UFO photography, published by the National Archives of the United Kingdom in 2009 Photography disappears. That same fall, during a meeting at the MOD offices in London, Lindsay noticed that the best of UFO images had been extended to poster size and hanging on a wall. He was also able to observe the other five photos, in which the Harrier was seen moving around the object while he remained motionless. When consulting with the Ministry analysts, they confirmed that there were no indications of fraud, but that they could not identify the object. Despite the apparent initial interest, Calvine’s case was quickly filed. The Daily Record never published the story, and The photographs disappeared from any public registry For more than 30 years. It is unknown if the newspaper decided not to publish the article on its own initiative or if it received pressures from the British government to hide the incident. Where is the photo? It appears then The figure of the journalist and researcher David Clarkewho was aware of the case in 1996 through the book Open Skies, Closed Mindsby Nick Pope, a former MOD official who worked at the Ministry’s UFO investigation office. Pope described the case as one of the most intriguing in the MOD files and said that the analyzes had determined that the images were genuine, although the object remained without explanation. In 2009, Clarke began to examine declassified documents in the national archives of the United Kingdom and found a memorandum aimed at Ministers of Defense of the time of Margaret Thatcher. In this document, under the title “Defensive Lines to Take”, it was claimed that The mod had not reached definitive conclusions on the objectbut that the plane in the image was undoubtedly a Harrier. In addition, the memorandum indicated that there were no records of unusual activity in the area. Written version of a handwritten summary of Calvine’s sighting in September 1990, published by the United Kingdom National Archives in 2009 The (re) discovery. Over the years, Clarke tried to locate the original image without success, until In 2018 he found the name of a former defense intelligence department in government documents. After locating it on LinkedIn and contacting him, he confirmed that he remembered Calvine’s case and that at the time caused a stir within the ministry. According to his testimony, the most likely explanation was that it was an American experimental aircraft. This revelation led Clarke to Craig Lindsay, who still retained a copy of the photograph inside an old book in his garage. Thus, in 2022, after more than three decades of mystery and After examining with experts if the photograph was realClarke made the image public to the entire world, generating enormous media interest. What the hell happens here? The big question is still unanswered, although obviously there is hypotheses and possible explanations about the nature of the object. The most popular are three. The first is that, yes, That day an extraterrestrial ship was seen. In this regard, some ufologists argue that the object does not resemble any known aircraft, which reinforces the theory that it could be a ship of extraterrestrial origin. The second most commented option speaks of A United States Secret Project. This tip theory to which the object was an American aircraft prototype, possibly from the Aurora program, an alleged hypersonic spy developed … Read more

Steven Soderbergh: ‘I am the cockroach of this industry. I can survive any version of it’

NEW YORK — Steven Soderbergh is not only the director and cinematographer of his latest film. In some ways, he is also its central character. “Presence” is filmed entirely from the point of view of a ghost inside a house that a family has just moved into. Soderbergh, who acts as his own cinematographer under the pseudonym Peter Andrews (his father’s name), essentially plays the presence, a floating point of view that watches as the violence that killed the mysterious ghost threatens to repeat itself. For the prolific Soderbergh, the film, which opens in theaters Friday, was a unique challenge. She shot “Presence” with a small digital camera while wearing slippers to soften her steps. The 62-year-old filmmaker chatted in a recent interview in Manhattan, in the midst of post-production on his next film (“Black Bag,” a thriller that Focus Features will release on March 14), and the start of production in a few weeks his next project, a romantic comedy that he says “feels like a George Cukor movie.” Soderbergh, whose films include “Out of Sight,” the “Ocean’s 11” films, “Magic Mike” and “Erin Brockovich,” tends to do a lot in small windows. of time. “Presence” took 11 days to film. That skill has made Soderbergh one of the most respected Hollywood evaluators in the film business. In a wide-ranging conversation, he discussed why he thinks streaming is the most destructive force cinema has ever faced and why he is “the cockroach of this industry.” Steven Soderbergh attends the premiere of “Presence” at AMC Lincoln Square on Thursday, January 16, 2025 in New York. (Evan Agostini/Invision/AP) You use pseudonyms for yourself as director of photography and editor. Were you tempted to credit yourself as an actor for “Presence”?SODERBERGH: No, but what I did is subtle. For the first and only time Peter Andrews has a camera operator credit. That’s not a credit I usually take because I don’t need it and I typically have another operator working with me. But I felt like this was training. It was complicated, but really fun. It was another level of performance anxiety because I ruined more takes than anyone else in the movie by a major factor. I was the one saying, “Cut. I ruined it. “We have to start over.” You made this quickly and cheaply, and then sold it to a distributor. Was working outside the system attractive to you?The beauty of projects on this scale is that I can do them without having to talk to anyone. It’s not because I don’t want comments. It’s because it’s just the trusted group and none of the psychic space is occupied by things that have nothing to do with what you’re going to film. I went from that to a more traditional project where a lot of psychic space is consumed in the process of having a studio finance your film. I like these people, it’s just that there are a lot of lawyers. Many lawyers. You’ve called streaming the most destructive force in the history of cinema. What irritates you the most about it?It removes a key reference point for an artist. It’s useful to know how something is working, or how it worked. You need to know that to gauge whether you achieved what you wanted to achieve, whether you can work at a certain level. That’s one of the most confusing things about it, the black box of it. Aside from the economic invisibility of what’s going on there — the fact that we can’t really look under the hood of how these streaming companies operate economically — there’s another kind of guardrail that’s missing that I find really useful. At the end of the day, at least, I want to know. The market will tell you how you are doing. I want to know that so I can adjust or go in another direction. Being irrelevant is not very attractive. What’s the overlap between what people seem to be responding to and what I like? Because I don’t want to do these things and have no one see them. I’ve had enough people say, “Oh, that came out?” It is a public art form. West Mulholland, from left, Callina Liang, Steven Soderbergh and Eddy Maday attend the premiere of “Presence” at AMC Lincoln Square on Thursday, January 16, 2025 in New York. (Evan Agostini/Invision/AP) How do you suspect the audience is changing? The good news is, if you talk to Focus Features and Neon and A24, young people are going to the movies. This is the generation of (the social network of movie buffs) Letterboxd. That’s fantastic. I hope that spreads outside of the United States. They are movie buffs and expect something unique. They want the signature, they want the seal of a filmmaker. And that is becoming a real business. One of the things, I think, that we all need to do, but especially people who cover the industry, is to stop using the studio metric for what is a success. That is not a template that you should apply to everything. Do you ever regret that the movies that made you want to be a filmmaker like “All the President’s Men” and “Chinatown” occupied a different place in the culture than movies today? There was a period of about 10 to 14 years where the best movies of the year were also the most popular movies of the year. That’s not necessarily true today. You can pick one of the movies that’s in the competition this year and say: That’s a movie from the ’70s. It’s just as good and interesting as one of those. But it’s not going to do the business that one of those would have done. It is the artist’s job to adapt. When you’re trying to control what people want to see, you’re in a place like, “If I really wish hard, it won’t rain.” The weather is the weather. To some degree, the audience is a weather system. Fortunately, … Read more
