The California peach industry has suffered an unprecedented collapse. But it will be repeated, it will be repeated a lot, it will be repeated all over the world

Richard Lial He lived peacefully in his little house in Escalonnorthern California. He had acres and acres of productive almond trees that he had been exploiting for the last decade. But three years ago, just when costs began to become unsustainable, Del Monte (one of the largest fruit and vegetable companies in the world) made him an offer. A 20-year contract for Lial to exchange its almond trees for the peaches that the company’s large cannery in Modesto needed. Del Monte’s move put on the table some 550 million over the next few years and a business of tens of thousands of tons per season. The problem is that on July 1, 2025, Del Monte Food Corp declared bankruptcythe Modesto plant has closed and, with it, the entire Californian peach industry has collapsed. What exactly happened? Del Monte accumulated a debt of 1,245 million dollars on the day they filed the bankruptcy petition. And the reason is simple: in recent years, the company had been going into debt to make certain purchases in a sector that was in full decline. Today, the world consumes less canned goods and Del Monte executives believed that the only way to survive was to grow and ensure margins. The problem is that, with the rate increase in the months prior to the bankruptcy declaration, interest had doubled to the point of eating into the operating margin (a margin already quite affected by things like Trump’s tariffs that had made cans more expensive). The chaos has lasted for many months, but on February 6 the courts approved the sale of the company in parts. Peach growers breathed easy until they discovered that none of the buyers wanted the plant of Modesto. And why is that plant so important? Well, because Del Monte did not ask farmers to plant the peach they wanted. They were asked to plant the clingstone variety: a peach that simply has no fresh market. The pulp of the clingstone adheres to the bone and makes direct consumption uncomfortable. That is, it is a variety whose only destination is processors. In this case, the Modesto plant consumed 35% of the production of this stone fruit, about 50,000 tons in 2026. They are, to be honest, 50,000 tons that are now almost impossible to place anywhere. But the problem transcends 2026… Because the contracts that Del Monte I was signing Until a few months before the bankruptcy, they forced farmers to make investments of around $8,000 per acre in exchange for the peace of mind that comes with a 20-year contract. They went into debt for it. Many made the transition in 2023. So there are about 140 Californian farmers fgame era and some 1,200 jobs will be lost. But the impact is deeper. And it is not that talking about ‘sector cataclysm’ is not justified, it is that the central issue is the structural dependency that the dynamics of the primary sector are pushing the economy towards. …and that transcends even the peach. Because it doesn’t matter what product we look at: the consequences of financialization are there. It is enough to remember that in 2015 there were only 45 funds specialized in ‘agrobusiness’ in the world; Today they exceed 1,000 and move an enormous amount of money that is radically changed the way everything is managed. The rresult is as simple as it is tragic: Capital arrives, exploits the land as if there were no tomorrow, exhausts the territory’s resources, abuses the local socio-productive fabric and leaves. One day we will realize that there will be nothing left. Someone is so concerned about the exodus of millionaires from California to Miami that they have even organized a demonstration

Silicon Valley is packing its bags at the simple proposal of a new tax that would tax the fortunes of more than a billion dollars. In fact, some millionaires have already taken flight and bought one (or several) mansions in Miami to avoid having to pay for it. Does anyone care so much about this? exodus of millionaires who has even taken the initiative to defend them amid fears that they will abandon California to avoid high taxes. Even has called for demonstrations on the streets of San Francisco. To no one’s surprise, the press who went to cover the event and those who went to mock the demonstration outnumbered those who demonstrated. Doesn’t anyone think about millionaires? Derik Kauffman, a young 26-year-old founder of the AI startup RunRL and fresh out of the Y Combinator project incubator, an entity that was chaired by Sam Altman between 2015 and 2019, he has been the driving force behind the movement “March for Billionaires“. According to collect the local media San Francisco ExaminerKauffman pushed the event to oppose California’s proposed wealth tax and change public perceptions of the wealthy. The young man admitted that he was not aware of any billionaires intending to attend the demonstration defending their interests, but he wanted to show the contribution of great fortunes to the local economy. Rumors of a tax that have caused a storm. Kauffman’s initiative arose in response to the union’s proposal SEIU United Healthcare Workers West to create a 5% tax on fortunes over $1 billion, excluding real estate and pensions. According to the union, this measure would affect about 200 Californian residents and would raise about 100,000 million in the next five years. The proceeds would go to offset the Trump administration’s cuts in education, healthcare and social assistance. The tax would be applied retroactively to those who lived in the state in 2026, but for the initiative to be considered in a November 2026 vote it needs the support of 875,000 signatures. In fact, the initiative does not even have the support of California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is strongly opposed to the tax and work to block it. The march in San Francisco. The demonstration in support of the millionaires took place through some streets of San Francisco, and had “a few dozen” attendees, surpassed by journalists and curious onlookers who came to see the demonstration with their own eyes. As expected, neither Jeff Bezos nor Mark Zuckerberg attended the meeting. In fact, it is not strange. A Harris Poll points out that 74% of Americans consider millionaires to be overrated and 76% believe that they benefit from a poor system. OK to what was published by The Wall Street Journalthe march was led by a banner that read: “Billionaires Build Prosperity: Keep Them in California!” Behind her, just about twenty protesters held banners supporting the millionaires. In front of them they found a group of curious people who had also come to express their ideas and to verify that the march was not a joke. One of them held a sign that read: “I am poor and I am proud.” Reactions of millionaires. Other billionaires living in San Francisco, such as Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, They distanced themselves from the protest and they have agreed to the tax. Huang stated that “we choose to live in Silicon Valley, and whatever taxes they want to apply, so be it. I’m perfectly fine with that.” Other technology leaders have not made public statements, and have simply headed to Florida without giving further explanations. a few weeks ago the founders of Google did it. A few days later, Mark Zuckerberg did itwho after two decades in San Francisco, will change his zip code to that of Billionaire Bunker. However, what the millionaires have started is a lobbying campaign with million-dollar donations so that the measure does not prosper, according to information of Bloomberg. for Mark Zuckerberg to leave California

Jeff Bezos is not going to be the only technology mogul patrolling the warm waters from Florida with his imposing superyacht. Everything indicates that Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan are preparing to change zip codes and move to Miami from California, as published The Wall Street Journal. The founder of Facebook could have found a mansion on the exclusive artificial island Billionaire Bunkerwhere you will have Jeff Bezos, Tom Brady or Ivanka Trump or Julio Iglesias as neighbors. Like other millionaires settled in California, Zuckerberg is not moving for the climate or the views, but rather he is doing so in the midst of the debate over new wealth taxes on West Coast millionaires. The Zuckerberg family packs its bags. According what was published by BloombergMark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan are in the process of purchasing an oceanfront mansion in Indian Creek, off the coast of Miami, for an estimated price between $150 and $200 million. The operation is considered one of the most expensive in the history of Miami-Dade County, despite the exclusive nature and privacy of Indian Creek, means that the few mansions that come on the market in that location reach prices well above the average. Sources of The Wall Street Journal they assure that the mansion that Mark Zuckerberg would be negotiating for is recently completed, on a plot that is almost one hectare of land and access from the sea. The “billionaire bunker”. Indian Creek is an artificial island in Biscayne Bay, off Miami, that was conceived almost as a residential bunker (hence its nickname “Billionaire bunker”) with a single road that connects it to the rest of the keys. The island is divided into about fifty plots facing the sea, located around a large golf course. The extreme security and level of discretion offered to its residents, far above that of a conventional gated community, make Indian Creek a perfect place for the privacy of large fortunes. Among the residents already settled on the island are figures like Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, who own a beachfront plot for which they paid about $32 million, while others like Tom Brady or Carl Icahn reinforce the idea that this is less of a neighborhood and more of a private club for the ultra-rich. In fact, Mark Zuckerberg’s mansion is very close to the two adjoining mansions that Jeff Bezos bought, and that now is reforming to join them. California squeezes the ultra-rich, Florida rubs its hands. Rumors of Zuckerberg’s move to Miami come while an initiative to apply a single 5% wealth tax net of those who exceed 1,000 million dollars. This measure would affect to about 200 billionaires who live in that state. Most of these great fortunes are from the sphere of Silicon Valley and big technology, although some of these millionaires, like Jensen Huang, have assured have no problem paying more taxes. Several billionaires, including Peter Thiel or Larry Pagehave already abandoned California due to the threat of this tax. He California exodus to other states with more lax fiscal policies is not something new. Figures like Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk already changed zip code more than a year ago, establishing their new residence in Florida and Texas respectively. California will test a “co -pilot of AI” at one of the most sensitive points of its electricity grid. Can go very well … or very bad

There is a less visible part of the electricity grid: the one that goes out on purpose. From time to time, whole teams must disconnect by maintenance. They are routine tasks, but their coordination and validation are decisive so that the system continues to work. In California, that work falls to the California Independent System Operator (Caiso) human team. Now, an artificial intelligence will begin to collaborate with them. Caiso has launched A pilot project with the firm Oati. The objective is to verify how a language model, similar to the one that drives Chatgptcan attend in a critical mission: manage requests – especially the scheduled – that come daily to perform maintenance in the network. Artificial intelligence to attend a task that cannot fail Many of these requests imply, although not always, temporarily disconnect key assets. If the information is incomplete or incorrect, the consequences can be felt in real time: from Network instability even alterations in the electricity market. Therefore, although part of the flow is already automated, the final review remains manual and exhaustive. Between 2020 and 2025, internal graphs show a high volume of applications, with clear spring and autumn peaks, the usual maintenance windows. That seasonality, added to the total number of requests, converts maintenance management into one of the most complex operating challenges in the system. The tool is called Oati Genie and is raised as a co -pilot of AI. Detect anomalies, extract operational information and suggest steps based on previous cases. To achieve this, it combines retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) with a system of multiple agents: operators formulate questions in natural language and receive contextualized answers, with links to documents and records that support them. The operator can, for example, ask what work could affect a certain electric route and obtain a history, procedures and public data such as those of OASIS (Open Access Same-Time Information System), the regulated base that centralizes technical and market information in real time. That consultation, which previously demanded manual searches, now comes with much more agility. The co -pilot does not decide for itself, its role serves to reinforce and expedite the human decision. If everything is going as planned, the tool will enter internal tests before the end of the year. Those who use it may report failures, limitations or improvements and help profile their evolution. It is not an isolated experiment, but part of a broader strategy to Apply to other areas of the system. The plan is underway, but there is still knowing if Oati Genie will fulfill what he promises. It may become a daily ally for operators; Maybe it’s just a step on the road to a smarter network. The only sure thing is that the electricity sector already explores that address. California project is being a real nightmare

The United States has been dreaming of its high -speed train decades. The plan was ambitious, even poetic: Connect San Francisco and Los Angeles in less than three hoursreduce emissions, revitalize rail transport and demonstrate that the country could also compete with Europe and Asia in mobility of the 21st century. But what should be a symbol of modernity has become one of the most chaotic and discussed infrastructure projects of the country’s recent history. It all started with illusion. In 2008, California voters approved 10,000 million dollars in bonds to take the first big step. The objective was clear: a high speed line that would travel the state from north to south at 354 km/h. The, optimistic calendar, spoke of 2020 as an opening date. But 2020 arrived and passed. And 2025 is also happening, With just 35 kilometers ready To start placing the tracks. There are no trains. There are no operational stations. And what remains ahead seems, the less uncertain. Delays, cost overruns and uncertainty Today, the estimated total cost of the project exceeds 106,000 million dollarsmore than triple the initial budgeted. The layout has been reduced. The promise of joining Sacramento with San Diego It has been parked, and all the focus is now in a much more modest section: about 275 kilometers in the central valleybetween Merced and Bakersfield. A segment with low population density and a debatable impact in terms of real mobility. Why is it costing so much? There are many answers, and apparently any simple. The acquisition of private land has been a nightmare. In addition, the transfer of public infrastructure, such as pipes, electric lines or high steps, has triggered costs. But the most decisive has been the lack of stable financing. The project has been advancing to trumpets, based on fragmented budgets, partial promises and conditioned aids. Without a clear road map and with federal support that has varied according to the White House in turn, the work has accumulated delays, cost overruns and frustration. Even so, there are advances. At the end of 2023, after receiving a historical injection of almost 3.1 billion dollars by the federal governmentCalifornia High-Speed Rail Authority took a key step: he published in January 2024 the list of finalist suppliers for the manufacture of their electric trains. The two selected companies are Alstom and Siemenstwo giants of the railway sector with more than accredited experience in Europe. The idea is clear: acquire trains capable of overcoming the 350 km/h, designed from scratch for this layout, and adapted to the specific needs of California. But the project is not limited to speed. There is a remarkable and unusual effort to think about the travel experience from the first moment. In Sacramento, A real scale model has already been built of one of the wagons, made of wood and foam, to visualize every detail of the interior. The model has been used to collect suggestions from experts in accessibility, engineers, public leaders and user associations. And the proposals go beyond the obvious: from large adapted toilets to emergency buttons accessible from the ground in case of fall, through areas for families, capsule compartments for those who seek privacy and spaces specifically designed for accessibility. California has also taken advantage of a structural advantage: his wagons will be wider than those of conventional trains in the United States, which will allow broader corridors Without sacrificing space for the passenger. The intention, according to the rail authority, is that this is a high -speed train designed for all. A really inclusive train. For the moment, There are more than 25 active works in the Central Valleywith about 1,500 workers deployed daily. 422 miles of the future route have been cleared, at least on the environmental level. And more than 50 structures have already been built: bridges, viaducts, high steps. But most of the project is still in the air. The financing to finish the central section must be closed before mid -2026. And although the current CEO, Ian Choudri, says they are on the right track to achieve it, either by private investors, federal loans or new bonds, the time runs against it. Especially if the Federal Administration changes sign and rethinking to keep the funds already committed. The Department of Transportation, under the leadership of Sean Duffy, has announced a complete audit of the project. THE OBJECTIVE: Determine SI California has fulfilled the commitments assumed Upon receiving federal money. The threat is clear. If there are no sufficient solid advances or guarantees, these funds could be reallocated to other states with more mature projects. The pressure, once again, is huge. The contrast with other countries is painful. Japan built his first Shinkansen in the 60s. Spain has been expanding its bird network more than three decades. Morocco has since 2018 its high -speed train between Tangier and Casablanca. In the United States, Acela remains the closest thing, with 240 km/h peaks on roads that cross tunnels of the nineteenth century. In California, everything is complex. The layout crosses agricultural areas, urban nuclei, protected land. Despite the promises, agreements and models in a real scale, there is a risk that the project appears: to continue being a dream. And yet, there is something in the original idea that continues to resist. A kind of conviction that, if ends, this train You can mark a before and after. Not only in California, but in the entire transport network of the country. Images | California High Speed Rail In Xataka | The C919 Comac

Trump wants to annex Greenland for the US. So in Denmark they have had an idea: stay with California

Donald Trump’s order for control Greenland has already had an effect, one with which he probably did not count the new tenant of the White House: he has shown the world what is the sense of humor that is stipulated in Denmark. With The scathing point that characterizes the Danish comedy, the country has starred A satirical campaign For Denmark Buy California. After all, if Truemp wants to take away Greenland, why would Denmark not take a state from Trump? The initiative already accumulates more than 200,000 signatures and has achieved remarkable visibility that transcends Danish borders. Your motto, of course: “MAKE CALIFØRNIA GRAAT ÆGAIN”. A word: denarkification. Since Trump left the idea that Greenland cut out ties with the kingdom of Denmark and passes to the US protection, the proposal has generated all kinds of reactions. In Washington, In Nuuk And of course in Copenhagen, who has ruled out that possibility bluntlyhas committed a few billions of crowns to reinforce the Danish military presence in the Arctic region and even He has redesigned His real arms shield to claim his historical bond with the island. The scenario throughout the last month has been a strap, complex, anything less comical. Or at least it was until someone decided to add some humor to the controversy and create the web Denarkification.comin which it basically campaigns for Denmark to buy California to the United States. Sounds comic. And the web does not hide that this is its purpose, satire, so its argument is full of phrases loaded with irony. Capture of the Denmarkification.com website. A figure: 207,000. The web does not reveal who is behind the initiative, but that has not prevented it from having achieved more than remarkable visibility. The initiative has echoed, in addition to the Danish press, the Briton The GuardianAmerican chains CBS News and Foxthe Indian The Economic Times or the Canadian NDT World. Its impact has not been only media. Denmarkification has a section in which visitors can support the petition for Denmark to Enter California and, according to collects the website itselfhas already managed to exceed 207,000 signatures. It is not the only figure that the platform quotes, which has even calculated (of course without justifying it) how much money would need to carry out its purpose and see how the red and white flag of Denmark Hondea in Sacramento. Their drivers speak of a Crowdfunding of one billion dollars, which is equivalent to “more or less a few billions”, They clarify. “That is just 200,000 crowns for every Danish. Save a few coffees with milk and it would be.” One question: Why California? For several reasons. At least following the argumentary of Demarkification, written in an indisimulantly ironic tone. Its creators start talking about the weather on the west and take the opportunity to launch Trump some other polish Your friction With the governor of California, the Democrat Gavin Newson, who recently even He came to compromise 50 million dollars to protect immigrants and defend the state of the policies of the Republican administration. A key: irony. “Have you ever looked at a map and thought: ‘Do you know what Denmark needs? More sun, palm trees and scooters? Heard well. California could be ours and we need your help to make this happen “, The campaign starts ‘Prodanesa’, on the way to 208,000 signatures. From there its authors highlight the food, the technology industry and (again) the Californian weather. “Let’s be honest: Trump is not exactly the greatest admirer in California. He has said that it is ‘the most ruined state of the union’ and has been enemized with their leaders. We are quite sure that he would be willing to detach himself from him for the fair price “, Ironize the web. “And we also give you a supply of Danish cakes for life to sweeten the deal. What about the will of citizens? Well, let’s be realistic: when has that stopped that?” A promise: renduct Disneyland. It is not the only sarcastic wink of The campaignwhich ends with a “discharge of responsibility” in which its authors warn: “This campaign is 100% real … in our dreams.” The denarkification initiative undertakes to rename the Disneyland park to call it Hans Christian Andersenland, add a Viking helmet to Mickey Mouse, take he Hygge To Hollywood and connect Beverly Hills with bike lanes. Does it sound complicated? To those who contribute to Danish crowns to the cause, the platform promises rewards as a letter of personal thanks of the Danish royal family, life supply of Californian avocado or even a private beach in Malibu, all depending on the money they contribute. As for the purchase itself, Denmarkification assures that will sign Lego managers for negotiation and who have the support of Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, Sven el Viking or the Battery of the Metallica Group. THE IDEA: Before the convulsive diplomacy … sense of humor. Trump states that Army entered California to “open the water” and the State denies it

The President Donald Trump assured the early morning of Tuesday that the United States Army had “entered California”a state devastated by recent fires, To “open water”, a fact that state authorities have denied. “The United States Army has just entered the great state of California and, under emergency powers, opened the water that flows abundantly from the northwest of the Pacific and beyond,” Trump wrote in his social network in a Message in which he assured that “the days when using a false environmental argument about people ended. Enjoy water, California! ” The message occurred one day after Trump issued an executive order that instructed half a dozen federal agenciesincluding the Department of Defense and the Department of National Security, to manage how to deliver more water to the south of California and the Central Valley to end the fires in Los Angeles that the president visited last Friday. “The military did not enter California,” published the Department of Water Resources of the State of California in X. “The Federal Government restarted the supply of federal water pumps after they were out of service for maintenance for three days. State water supplies in southern California remain abundant, ”he said. Trump made last Friday a visit to North Carolina Los Angeles, California, where he toured areas hit by natural disasters and slid the possibility of eliminating the Federal Emergency Agencyin addition to criticizing the management of the Democrats. In California he supervised the damage caused by the fires of recent weeks in Los Angeles, about what has also been very critical for how the state governor, Democrat Gavin Newsom has managed. From the beginning of the fires, Trump has accused the state authorities of wasting large amounts of water that, according to him, are sent to the Pacific Ocean instead of directing them to Los Angeles. Trump ensures that this change in the flow of water is due to attempts from the state to protect a tiny -size fish called “Delta Smelt”, an assertion denied by local authorities and experts. It also says, without foundation, that water could deviate from Canada and that it would be enough to turn a valve to solve the water problems of the state. The earth’s crust is disappearing under California. The test is in its earthquakes

The border between the mantle and the land cortex is a region that attracts interest of numerous geologists. Being so close and so far from the reach of the instruments that these scientists use perhaps a certain mysticism to this region, but above all, because the dynamism of The interactions Among the outermost layers of our planet makes this border a specially active region at the geological level. Scratching the bark. Now, a new study He has revealed A new aspect of this interaction. He has done it in the Sierra Nevada Californiana, or rather under this Sierra, where they have found evidence of how the mantle “pela” the earth’s crust. Delamination Geologists believe that, from time to time, fragments of the lithosphere end up detaching themselves and sinking into the upper layers of the terrestrial mantle. This process is known as alamination or sinking of the lithosphere and could be responsible for the notable differences in the thickness of the oceanic crust in contrast to the continental cortex, among other characteristics of the geology and geography of the planet. Generally, this process is seen as a “drip”: the heaviest rock of the cortex loses consistency and ends up detaching from the lithosphere to sink into the mantle, composed of less dense materials. However, Maybe this delamination is more abruptsomething like the terrestrial mantle “pelara” the cortex. Seismic waves. As usual in this type of studies, the team analyzed the way in which seismic waves move through the interior layers of the Earth in order to study factors such as the composition and density of these layers. Sierra Nevada is a seismically active region, which implies a greater ease to compile data in this way. The researchers responsible for the study They combined various sources of seismic data in their study, starting with this analysis, called the receiving function. The team combined it with the exhaustive catalog data of the Advanced National Seismic System (COMCAT). In this catalog they detected the presence of a “band of seismicity” in the region, located from 40 kilometers under the surface, which concentrated small earthquakes of magnitudes between 1.9 and 3.2. Break, I don’t drip. Thanks to the differences detected through the receiving functions, the equipment was able to find a differentiated layer in the mantle, a not so differentiated layer as it extends to the north and that is consistent with the hypothesis that part of the lithosphere in the South Zone broke out of the cortex several million years ago. The small earthquakes on the other hand, could be indicative that this detachment was made for breakage instead of drip, according to the authors of the study. The details of this analysis were published In an article In the magazine Geophysical Research Letters. Strengthening the hypothesis. The evidence is not yet conclusive as the team admits, but they add to the already numerous that support the hypothesis that the discontinuity of Mohorovičić (the border between the cortex and the upper mantle of the earth) is not abrupt under the mountain range from Sierra Nevada, but rather gradual. At least 10 people die after snow storm in the southern United States

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Animal Services officers, conducted an operation in Clements, Californiawhich resulted in the arrest of a woman after 27 dead horses were discovered on several properties. During the search, authorities found other horses alive, but in deplorable conditions and with restricted access to food and water, the sheriff’s office said, according to ABCNews. In this sense, the woman identified as Jan Johnson, a resident of Clements, was put behind bars and faces multiple charges, including animal cruelty, threats to a public official, criminal threats and possession of a short-barreled firearm. He is currently in custody at the San Joaquin County Jail. Some horses were rescued Meanwhile, rescue teams, along with veterinarians present at the scene, began a process of evaluating and classifying the surviving horses. After a detailed analysis, 16 horses were rescued and are now under the care of Oakdale Equine Rescue, where they will receive the medical and nutritional care necessary for their recovery. However, authorities reported that four horses and a bull had to be sacrificed due to being in a serious state of health. “We are committed to protecting the well-being of all animals in our community and will continue to investigate this matter.”declared the police officers. “Thank you to our officers and Animal Services team for their dedication and quick action in addressing this situation. “We would also like to thank Oakdale Equine Rescue for their incredible support in helping us with this rescue.” Meanwhile, the investigation continues, and additional assessments are being conducted on the property to determine the status of other animals that may be at risk. Hughes Fire causes evacuation of 31,000 people in Southern California

Firefighters in Southern California are tackling the Hughes Fire, which continues to expand, which has forced the evacuation of thousands of people in the region and caused the evacuation of at least 31,000 residents. After starting on Wednesday, this fire has consumed more than 10,000 acres in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire), this fire is barely 14% contained, CNN reported. Located north of Santa Clarita, in the community of Castaic, the fire has led to the evacuation of around 31,000 residents, while another 23,000 have been advised of the possibility of evacuation, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna. David Acuña, Cal Fire battalion chief, reported that, so far, no material damage or injuries have been reported. “As we progress through the day, we will be able to better evaluate the situation,” Acuña said. Red flag warning will be until Friday Meantime, The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning that will extend through Friday morning for much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.. The combination of Santa Ana winds and extremely dry vegetation creates a high risk that new fires could emerge in the region. David Ortiz, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, noted: “The Santa Ana winds are blowing against this fire, so we had that in our favor.” However, firefighters are still working hard to make sure there are no hot spots left that could be revived by the wind. “We continue to expect some dry moisture and then possible wind gusts up to 60 mph.”Ortiz warned. “It’s very dry. Any spark can cause a new fire to start and spread quickly.” The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning that will extend through Friday morning for much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The combination of Santa Ana winds and extremely dry vegetation creates a high risk that new fires could emerge in the region.
