Stellantis has lived two great controversies in recent years related to their engines or the systems that make them work. Controversies that have ended up exploding in recent months and that is forcing the company to expand its guarantees and give greater coverage to affected customers.
We recently knew that Stellantis promised Expand the guarantee of your PureTech engines retroactively and that would assume the expenses of the Repairs between 2022 and 2024 as long as some conditions are met, such as being able to certify that maintenance has been passed correctly.
The other front that the conglomerate has open is related to the failures in the adblue systems of its cars. Now, the company undertakes to expand special coverage for Peugeot, Citroën, DS Automobiles and Opel/Vauxhall cars with Euro 6 diesel engines.
In the case of having paid this special coverage, now it will be the clients who can request that the money be reinstated.
The problems with the adblue and the response of Stellantis
In Europe, since 201 the standard has been applied Euro 6 To all the cars approved since then. This new emission regulations forced manufacturers to assemble SCR systems (selective catalytic reduction) to reduce NOX (nitrogen oxide) expelled to the atmosphere.
He SCR system It is designed to break down part of the polluting gases in nitrogen and water vapor. It is, ultimately, a catalyst installed in the exhaust pipe. Said catalyst It works with Adbluea product in liquid format that combines water and urea (32.5%) that is injected into the catalyst. The heat produced by gases causes it to become ammonia and breaks down those same gases.
To ensure that cars contaminated as much as possible, the European Union forced the manufacturers to include the impediment of starting the car if the deposit lacks adblue enough to guarantee its operation. If the tank is spent with the car running, it continues to work but once off, we will not be able to start it again.
The problem that some Stellantis clients were found is that defective deposits were produced. If this failure was given, in some cases it was requested that The deposit will be filled Before time and the car was still working but, in others, the car understood that it lacked the liquid and, therefore, prevented the car from starting.
The only solution to this problem went through the replacement of the Adblue tank, which could lead to an expense of about 1,000 euros. In December last year, The European Commission has already confirmed an agreement for which he forced Stellantis to compensate users as follows:
- 100% of the cost of the pieces in vehicles with up to 5 years and up to 150,000 kilometers.
- Between 30% and 90% of the cost of the pieces (depending on the mileage) of cars between 5 and 8 years.
- The cost of assumed labor will be 30 euros, unless the damage is recurring, in which case it will assume all the costs of the authorized workshop.
The campaign began in Italy but now The special program to all of Europe is expandedincluding Spain. The cars that receive this guarantee are those manufactured between January 2014 and August 2020 when the adblue deposits that were set up until then in the diesel cars of Stellantis were changed.
In addition, it is specified that customers who already repaired their vehicle from 2021 and were compensated at that time by Expanded coverage that have been applied so far by this problem, they will have the right to request an extension of the reimbursement money taking into account these new conditions.
Those who wish, will have to request the expansion of coverage online using this link.
