When do the free and discounted passes end?
Subscriptions have run out as of today. Yesterday afternoon the Royal Decree that included these passes was rejected, and Renfe immediately announced that they can no longer be acquired today. It has been immediate and lightning-fast.
Today, Thursday, January 23, 2025, you can no longer purchase free passes or discounted passes for long and medium distance or recurring trips. Everything has returned to its original price, after the discounts have been in force since September 2022.
What if you already have a subscription?
If you recently obtained one of these subscriptions, don’t worry, because you will be able to use them until the end date of their validity. Free passes already issued may be used until April 30and Avant until the end of their validity period.
Therefore, this means that you can no longer acquire more free passes or with discounts of 30% or 50%, however, if you already have one you will be able to continue using it until it expires. It remains in doubt whether an extension of these subscriptions will be attempted again, but for now they have ended.
