Ultra? What about Ultra? Yes, this year Samsung has launched not two, but three foldable devices: the Z Fold8 (which adopts the passport format), the Z Flip8 and the Z Fold8 Ultraspiritual heir in terms of format of the Fold7. As its name indicates, this is Samsung’s most capable and complete folding phone and its commitment, at least on paper, is clear: it is the best foldable in Samsung’s catalog and, incidentally, the most professional in nature.
One of the most obvious differences with respect to its brothers is in the camera and battery, because yes, the Z Fold8 Ultra It is the only one of the triad that has a telephoto and silicon-carbon batteries. It is also the thinnest foldable that the Korean company has manufactured to date and the one with the highest capacity battery.

The largest foldable…

Unlike the Fold8 and its passport format, ergo more panoramic, the Fold8 Ultra is committed to a more square format which, when deployed, leaves us with a screen close to 1:1, that is, more square. There is a reason for this, and that is that the folding screen of the Ultra model is not designed for viewing content, but for productivity, for using two or more applications at the same time and on the go.
Few notable changes in the design, at least at first glance. The most interesting note is that the Fold8 Ultra becomes the thinnest foldable that Samsung has made to date, having trimmed 0.1 millimeters to the previous model. From 4.2 we went to 4.1 mm thick, something that may seem smaller, but becomes more important if we look at the battery capacity, which goes up to 5,000 mAh. Spoiler: Samsung, at least in this model, has jumped on the silicon-carbon bandwagon.

Regarding the screen, the most notable change is the improvement in the resolution of the folding panel, which goes from 368 to 422 pixels per inch, and the implementation of Flex Titanium, the new technology based on flexible titanium, for the hinge. According to Samsung, this should allow the fold to be less noticeable and the resistance to be greater, but we will clear up doubts when we test it thoroughly.
…does not skimp on power…
Like its wider brother, the Fold8 Ultra mounts the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, that is, a next-generation processor with a slightly higher clock speed to, in theory, offer even more performance. Combines with up to 16 gigabytes of RAM memory and a tera internal storage in its most powerful version and, to keep the temperature at bay, the company has opted for a graphite cooling system.

The key to the terminal is found in the battery. Samsung has been latebut he finally decided to bet on silicon-carbon batteries. This technology allows for greater energy density in the same space, which translates into greater autonomy. All Chinese competition has opted for these batteries and Samsung, finally, has decided not to be left behind. We thus find a 5,000 mAh battery, 600 mAh more than the previous model, whose fast charging remains at 45W.
Android 17 with One UI 9 is responsible for giving life to the whole set. Along with the promise of seven years of updates comes a whole suite of AI tools under the umbrella of Galaxy AI, some productivity functions such as Now Brief or Now Nudge and all the generative editing tools.
…and go a little further

If something has always characterized Samsung’s Ultra devices, it has been, without a doubt, the camera. Samsung has reserved the most competent sensors and the longest range lenses for this model, as proven by the 200 megapixel main sensor, the 50 megapixel wide angle and the telephoto (yes, this one does have it) 10 megapixel with optical zoom three increases. The improvement in resolution in the wide angle, which also acts as a macro, is notable.
Among the main new features, the main camera now supports HDR in 200 megapixel mode, and the Nigthography system should offer better performance in low light conditions. The device can also record in 8K with the APV codec and supports LUT so we can record directly with a predefined color and tone.
Selfies, for their part, are in the hands of two cameras, both ten megapixels, whose main differences are, essentially, the field of view. However, this format allows you to take photos with the main camera and see the result live on the screen, something that is surprisingly easy to get used to.
