The coach of FC Barcelona, Hansi Flick has recognized that his team needs “fresh legs”which is why he has hinted that in this Sunday’s game against Valencia he could introduce “several changes” to the lineup.
From the press room of the Joan Gamper Sports City, the German coach has admitted that midfielder Pedro González ‘Pedri’, a fixture in the lineups, could be a substitute against the Che team.
“(Pedri) will continue playing because he is doing better, but it may also be that he is not starting. We need fresh legs to face Valencia. There are changes planned in the team”he explained.
After adding 6 points out of the last 24 possible in LaLiga EA Sports, the Barça team receives a visit from the Valencian team, “a rival that has stabilized its defense and knows how to play football,” Flick has warned.
Asks to improve in LaLiga
“We must improve concentration from the beginning to the end of the game. “It’s what I want”said the Heidelberg coach, who pointed out that Barça “is a very young team” and that “helps them a lot to do what they think is necessary.”
Among the names of the week, Ronald Araujo stands out, who last Thursday renewed his contract with the Barça club until June 30, 2031.
Asked about the situation of the Uruguayan centre-back, the German coach recalled that “the important thing is that he is fit” and, in this sense, he is convinced that “he will improve” in the second half of the season.
To the already confirmed renewals of Araujo and Gerard Martín, those of other important players for Flick such as Pedri or Pablo Páez Gavira ‘Gavi’ could be added in the coming weeks.
In this sense, the Barcelona coach has praised the figure of the sports director, Anderson Luis de Souza, ‘Deco’: “The club and Deco are doing great. We are looking for new players, but the important thing is also to talk to our players. “I really like how he manages the staff and the Deco team”.
He did not clarify the issue of the goalkeeper
Flick has also been asked who will occupy the goal against Valencia, whether Wojciech Szczesny, who started against Benfica, or Iñaki Peña, who played against Getafe, but preferred not to give any clues. “We will wait until tomorrow,” he added.
Likewise, he has also referred to the situation of the central defender Andreas Christensen, already recovered from an Achilles tendon injury, of whom he has said that, despite the fact that “he is doing very well”, there are footballers who are “ahead of him right now.”
