Microsoft had been talking about artificial intelligence in Windows 11. It is his clearest movement so far to mark ground in the race for AI on the desk, where Apple plays with Apple Intelligence.
Recall, problems, solutions and launch
Recall is a function designed to capture what you see on screen and allow you to look for it later. If you remember having seen the name of a restaurant days ago but you don’t know where, Recoall can help you find it through text coincidences and images, automatically organized according to its relevance. In addition, it allows you to return directly to the content where you left it.
Presented in May 2024Recall had to arrive next to the first PC Copilot+Microsoft’s great bet for AI. However, sa launch was delayed after security criticisms that questioned their design. The function takes screenshots periodically, analyzes them by OCR and stores them in a local database. That base, as several experts pointed out, could be accessed too easily by malicious software, even without administrator privileges. In practice, you could expose all user’s visual activity, including personal data, deleted messages or confidential information.
Microsoft responded after these criticism by introducing important changes. To start, Recall is no longer activated by default: during the initial system configuration, the user must explicitly accept if he wants to enable it. It is also possible to deactivate it at any time from configuration.
In addition, the system now incorporates automatic filters to avoid storing sensitive content, such as passwords or credit card numbers. The processing and management of the data are isolated through safe enclaves (vbs enclaves), and access to the function Requires authentication through Windows Hello. Even so, the company recognizes that Recall is still in preliminary phase, subject to changes and improvements.
This type of deployment is not exclusive to Microsoft. Apple Intelligence, although available without the need for betas, is also in preliminary phase. Artificial desktop intelligence, for now, is launched to evolve on the fly.
Click to do and the new search: also in small actions
Together with Recall, Microsoft has launched click to do, a function that remembers Google’s circle to Search. It is activated with the Windows key and a left mouse click, and allows Interact directly with texts and images of what you are seeing: from summarizing a paragraph to eliminating an object from an image.
The Windows search is also reinforced. Now it allows to introduce unpelded descriptions and find results without remembering file names or exact words.
What do you need to use them
All the functions presented today, including Recall, Click To do and the new search, are available only on computers with the PC Co -cilot+label. Even if you have a powerful team, if you do not have this certification, you will not be able to access them.
