Without events and practically a surprise, Apple has officially presented the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 chipan update that promises significant improvements in both performance, autonomy and artificial intelligence, while maintaining the same starting price as its predecessor. The company has also announced the new iPad Pro and its new generation of Vision Pro mixed reality glasses.

New M5 chip: improvements in AI and graphics performance

The protagonist of this new generation is the M5 chip, manufactured with 3 nanometer technology. Apple assures that it offers up to 3.5 times more performance in artificial intelligence tasks compared to the M4and up to 1.6 times more graphics power.

The new processor incorporates a 10-core GPU with a neural accelerator in each of them, which according to the company significantly improves the processing of local AI models, the generation of images and the execution of language models.

The CPU, also with 10 cores, promises 20% more multi-core performance compared to the M4, a detail that especially benefits tasks such as code compilation or simultaneous work with several professional applications.

Faster storage and greater autonomy

Another notable change is the incorporation of Fastest SSD storage technologywhich according to Apple can up to double the performance of the previous model in read and write operations. This translates into shorter times when importing RAW files or exporting large videos. The maximum storage configuration reaches 4TB.

Regarding autonomy, Apple announces up to 24 hours of battery life. Apple compares it to the MacBook Pro with M1with an increment of four hours. There is also a notable increase compared to Intel-based models, which would gain up to 14 additional hours. Of course, perhaps the most notable difference in this aspect (and not exactly for the better) is that this new model does not include a power adapter, so if we want it, we must add 65 euros more to the bill for the 70 W one or 85 euros for the 96 W one.

A familiar and unchanged design

The MacBook Pro M5 maintains the design and screen specifications of its predecessor: 14.2-inch Liquid Retina In addition, the company offers a nanotextured glass option to reduce reflections, also present in previous generations.

Connectivity doesn’t change either: three ports ThunderboltSD card reader, HDMI and MagSafe 3 connector for charging. The 12 MP webcam with Center Stage technology (which has made the leap to the iPhone 17), a six-speaker system and Wi-Fi 6E They complete a technical section without news.

Price and availability

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 chip has a starting price of 1,829 euros in Spain (1,699 euros with discount for education). The equipment is available in space black and silver. The base configuration includes 16 GB of unified memory and 512 GB of storage.

Reservations are open from today October 15th through Apple website and the Apple Store app. Customers are expected to start receiving it starting Wednesday, October 22.

As for the rest of the models, Apple has confirmed that the M5 Pro and M5 Max they will come laterfollowing the staggered release pattern of previous generations.
