The United States team was clearly imposed on Costa Rica 3-0 to ruin the debut of Mexican coach Miguel Herrera with the Costa Rican team in a duel held under cold weather in the city of Orlando, Florida.
It was the first game under the orders of the so-called Piojo Herrera and the reality is that the Ticos showed little of what can be expected from the former Mexico national team coach in the process of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, since he barely knew the players and the game fell on his calendar.
Nevertheless the complications in putting together their starting eleven, the Ticos looked for the enemy goal in the first ten minutes of play, but little by little the United States team under the command of Argentine Mauricio Pochettino improved and took control of the actions.
So The North American team began to show its superiority, where Diego Luna and Brian White They were a real headache for the Costa Ricans who had many problems controlling them, still showing the lack of understanding of what the coach who had his first duel in charge of the Central American team was looking for.
The United States took advantage of this dominance, because before Brian White’s goal in the 22nd minute they had already missed two options that made the Ticos bench’s hair stand on end and where Miguel Herrera did everything possible to try to show a better side on the field.
Diego Luna had a lot of participation in White’s score, when he took the ball from midfield and after taking away a distracted Rashir Parkins, he was able to touch the ball to White so he could take a cross shot that beat goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado’s attempt.
Costa Rica wanted to improve, but…
The pressure from the United States made Piojo Herrera suffer on the benchwho detected the evils and sent some adjustments to the Costa Rican formation in the midfield that allowed them to have solidity and greater offensive resources to the point of having the option of tying the score, but the North American goalkeeper Zach Steffen made a save that avoided the damage in his goal and that generated applause from the fans at the Inter&co Stadium.
Who forgives, loses
In the second half Costa Rica made changes to its formation and that brought him the recovery of the ball to generate danger that was about to lead to a goal, but again the goalkeeper of Uncle Sam’s team prevented the score now generated by the arrival of Allan Cruz.
But later the even pace of the North Americans was able to control the match again and thus reach the second score through Caden Clark, after a mistaken start by the Costa Rican defender Alejandro Bran when he lost the ball and allowing the 21-year-old American to shoot a perfect shot that beat goalkeeper Anthony Walker’s shot.
In the final minutes, Costa Rica did not feel how hard it was, but rather how dense it was when Patrick Agyemang sealed the North American victory. with a tremendous shot that not even the Costa Rica goalkeeper could see.
Now Miguel Herrera will have the obligation to beat Belize in the playoffs for the Gold Cup in the duels that will be played on March 17 and 24 in the cities of San José and Belmopan.
