Tap to pay lands in Spain

Apple has just announced the arrival of Tap to pay To Spain, available for all shops, suppliers of platforms and developers of payment apps. Caixabank, through the Global Payments merchant platform, will be the first to offer payments through Tap to pay to all its trade clients.

What is tap to pay. Tap to pay It is a function announced in 2022 which allows to turn our iPhone into a TPV for payments without any additional hardware. Just perform the same process we would do with any dataphone: bring the card to the iPhone.

Platforms like Stripe were among the first to join the proposal, adding compatibility with Tap to Pay in the United States. The function lands from today in Spain by Caixabank, open to integration into different platforms.

What is it for. The goal of Tap to pay is to eliminate the need to have a TPV to make payments in shops. The operation is identical to that of traditional payment, replacing the dataphone with the iPhone.

• You enter any trade to make a purchase
• Prepare your credit/debit card, mobile or smartphone (any payment method via chip NFC)
• You bring it closer to the payment receiver, in this case, the iPhone instead of the TPV
• The transaction is completed

Where will it be available. In alliance with CaixaBank, all Spanish Apple Store will have payment available via Tap to pay. Platforms like PayPal show video how simple it is to make payments through this solution.

Apple opens the service today so that the different suppliers can implement it, so it is expected that we progressively begin to see Tap to pay in the businesses that want to adhere to this payment modality. Any company or autonomous may use the service to collect your customers.

The advantages. Integrating Tap to pay has certain advantages against a traditional TPV. Only the compatible app and the iPhone are required, so at the portability level it is a victory against the dataphone.

Apple also presumes privacy in this solution. The same technology that has been refining in payments through Apple Pay: every transaction is encrypted is used. Apple promises not to know what is being purchased or who is buying it, by not permanently storing card numbers or information about the transaction.

What iPhone I need. To use Tap to pay we will not need a new batch iPhone. The new payment method will be available to all iPhone from the Xs From now on, as long as they execute the latest version of iOS (18).
